This month, we will move into a larger headquarters in downtown Decatur to meet the growing needs of our programs and launch new initiatives to solve large-scale health problems.
Due to the success of our programs, we have been growing at an extraordinary rate. Since 2014, we’ve been adding 20 positions annually and no longer have enough space in our current Decatur headquarters to accommodate all of our staff.
When fully renovated, our new space will accommodate up to 375 staff members – more than triple our current staff size. It will feature a state-of-the-art conference center that will enable us to host larger meetings of our partners to tackle complex public health problems.
The purchase and renovation of our new headquarters was made possible by the generous support of our donors including the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Pittulloch Foundation, and Decide DeKalb Development Authority. We are also deeply grateful to DeKalb County for selling us their property at 330 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. where our new headquarters is located.
We envision that this headquarters will become a new center for global health and will help support the economic development of the sector in metro Atlanta. We expect to have enough space to co-host other public health nonprofits that share our commitment to health equity.
This facility will also give us the capacity to move into other areas of global health where there is strong and growing demand for our collaborative and scientific expertise. Just last month, we added a new program to accelerate the elimination of leprosy, a Biblical scourge that continues to burden more than 200,000 people annually. We are also exploring bringing home our global health expertise to address social determinants of health in our own community.
Our receipt of the 2016 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize was a testament to the power of our collaborative model in solving large-scale health problems. That approach continues to drive all of our work. Our future has never been brighter as we start this new chapter in our history.
