GGHA Quarterly Member Meeting: Global is Local

Join us June 12th for ARCHI's second quarterly breakfast of 2019. We will continue our discussion of health equity in Atlanta by hearing how global health leaders are applying health equity practices in their work around the world. Together we will then consider how to apply these same lessons to our shared work in metro Atlanta.

Keynote Presentation: Jonathan Sugarman, CEO, Global to Local

Jonathan R. Sugarman, M.D., M.P.H. is CEO of Global to Local, a Seattle-based nonprofit whose mission is to demonstrate the effectiveness of global health strategies to improve the health status of underserved communities in the U.S. Prior to his service at Global to Local, he served for nearly two decades as President and CEO of Qualis Health, a Seattle-based non-profit recognized as a national leader in population health. He has authored over 90 papers and book chapters on topics such as diabetes mellitus, health problems of American Indians and quality of care among Medicare beneficiaries.

Patrick O’Carroll, MD, MPH, Head, Health Systems Strengthening Sector, Taskforce for Global Health

Patrick O’Carroll, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACMI, is head of The Task Force’s health systems strengthening sector. In this role, Dr. O’Carroll provides overall strategic and operational direction to the sector that currently consists of the Public Health Informatics Institute, TEPHINET, the African Health Workforce Project, and MedSurplus Alliance. He is also currently acting as interim Director for TEPHINET.

The Honorable Louis W. Sullivan, M.D.

Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., is chairman of the board of the National Health Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, whose goal is to improve the health of Americans by enhancing health literacy and advancing healthy behaviors. He also is chairman of the Washington, D.C.-based Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Professions -- a national non-profit organization with a community-focused agenda to diversify and transform health professions’ education and health delivery systems. He served as chair of the President’s Commission on Historically Black Colleges and Universities from 2002-2009, and was co-chair of the President’s Commission on HIV and AIDS from 2001-2006. With the exception of his tenure as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from 1989 to 1993, Dr. Sullivan was president of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) -- the first predominantly black medical school established in the 20th Century -- for more than two decades. On July 1, 2002, he retired and was appointed president emeritus. Dr. Sullivan serves as the Founding Chairman for the Georgia Global Health Alliance.
